MVC Pacemaker/
Defibrillator Clinic
There are a wide array of devices that are used in cardiology to help support the heart's electrical function. Pacemakers are used to help provide support for the heart when the rate is too slow and to help weak hearts beat more efficiently. Defibrillators are used in order to shock a heart that is beating too fast and can be lifesaving.
In recent years the number of patients needing these devices has been increasing as well as their complexity. Monitoring patients with these devices is crucial for their proper function in addition to providing proper treatment if parts of these devices are found to be defective and are recalled.
We are proud to have Michele Keefe RN, BSN as the head of the Merrimack Valley Cardiology Pacemaker/ Defibrillator Clinic which provides the proper monitoring of these devices once they have been implanted. She brings her prior years of experience from the Lahey Clinic to our staff and has helped care for our patients with these increasingly common and complicated devices.
